Description:

Vincent Cicalese played a key role in both developing and co-presenting the Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention (MBRP) training alongside Dr. Jessica Paulhus. He collaborated on organizing the content, integrating evidence-based practices, and translating complex clinical concepts—like the relapse model, stress response, and mindfulness techniques—into clear, actionable material.

Vincent helped create experiential segments, including Urge Surfing, SOBER Space, and Mountain Meditation, and contributed to the design of case studies and interactive discussions. During the three-hour session, he co-led the presentation, explained clinical applications, and facilitated mindfulness exercises. His engaging teaching style encouraged participation and helped attendees understand how to use MBRP strategies to support clients in building self-awareness, interrupting autopilot behaviors, and responding more mindfully to triggers.

Additionally, Vincent encouraged participant engagement through open-ended questions, small group brainstorming, and real-world application planning. He provided insights on how to tailor MBRP practices for clients in the action and maintenance stages of recovery, which are those most suited for this therapeutic model.

Throughout the session, Vincent emphasized compassion, nonjudgment, and the role of self-awareness in interrupting habitual behavior patterns. His teaching style blended clinical expertise with accessible, grounded examples that resonated with both clinicians and behavioral health professionals in the audience.
